As mindful guys and gals we’ve done our inner work, at least some of it. We’ve looked at the parts of our personalities that could use more compassion or less fire and we’ve improved. One thing I’ve noticed about myself this past week is that when I get out of my daily routine those bad habits I’ve worked on in the past, like being overcritical of myself and others, can creep back up and try to take over my mind once again.
Years ago that backward thinking would have thrown me for a loop, but now I can recognize that being out of my element is the mirror I need to show me that I’ve gotten complacent with my inner work. I’ve gotten comfortable in my everyday life leaving less room for triggers and more room to relax away from inner work.
This week I’d like you to look at those parts of yourself you’ve worked on in the past. Maybe you, too, can be overcritical or maybe you tense up with anxiety in situations you feel less comfortable. Whether you are out of your element or are in your everyday routine, make the intention to be hyperaware of those habits. Have you used routine to become comfortable with that which you have aversion to?
Just by bringing awareness back into the situation will give your inner work a chance to revamp and grow stronger. With that, you step forward into your days with more grace and a deeper connection to those around you.
I bring awareness back to my habits.
With intention and care,
I bring forth my most loving self.
