My Favorite Spiritual Books

Are you looking to do some light reading (or maybe a little heavy reading,) over the summer? Here is a list of my favorite spiritual books to help inspire your own spiritual reading list. Some of these I have read 10+ times and all of them are close by my bedside for quick daily reference.

For The Yogi

How Yoga Works by Michael Roach

This book was assigned to me during my yoga teacher training in 2014 and it’s been a favorite of mine ever since. It’s not the typical yoga book filled with “how to’s” of asana. Instead, it blends complicated yogic tradition into an easy-to-digest novel. I like this review of it, too.

For The Seeker

Messages from the Masters: Tapping into the Power of Love by Dr. Brian Weiss

This author has become one of my favorites. Although not for everyone, it can be a bit esoteric, this book came to me in college as I was trying to find my own religious and personal belief systems. This one will always be special to me.

For an Easy Read

Spirit Junkie by Gabrielle Bernstein

I talked about how I found this book here. Although I am a fan of all of her books, this is my favorite of Gabrielle Bernstein’s. She’s quite raw in telling some of her most personal stories and although I haven’t had the same experiences, it’s very relatable. This is a great read for those times you need a reminder of the powerful lessons of mindfulness.

For Healing

Ayurveda: The Science of Self Healing: A Practical Guide by Dr. Vasant Lad

I hope to study with Dr. Lad one day, but for now I have this book. Whether you are merely interested in Ayurveda or have been studying it for years, this book provides the tools and guides you need to use Ayurveda in your daily life.

Because you can’t have a spiritual reading list without this one on it…

A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson

Yes, of course. Marianne Williamson. She continues to be someone I follow for reminders of what really matters in life. This book will forever be a spiritual essential.
