Mindful Preparation: The Year of You (Or Not)

A few years back, my best friend proclaimed, “This is going to be the year of me!” And you know what? She was right. That year I watched as she grew her career, moved to another city, and built a life that felt aligned with her goals. At the end of that year she excitedly said to me, “Holly, this year is going to be the year of you!” My reply? No, it’s not.

My response was not based on negativity or self-deprecation, I just knew that I wasn’t yet in my final steps of realizing a goal, I was still in a time of mindful preparation. When she found success that year, it wasn’t because she merely wanted to, it was because she had spent years of mindful planning and developing to align her skills with her goals.

Happy Holidays + Blood Orange Poppy Seed Muffins

With the holidays approaching, we’re thinking of ways to be present. It can be easy to get caught up in the busyness of the season, but this year, we’re making a conscious effort to be in the moment.

Mindful Manifestation: Hold On Loosely

As I wrote here, one of the key components to manifestation is the ability to hold an intention close, without gripping onto it for dear life. Although seemingly simple, when you really want something it’s hard to loosen your grip. Manifestation is more than just wanting something to happen. To refine your skills in letting go, here are a few things to look at deeper.

Monday Mantra: I Harness Peace

Between world news and personal struggles, I’ve noticed a looming heavy energy running parallel to the holiday cheer of the season. I’ve read comments that remind us to take notice of world situations without turning our backs or forgetting the moment we turn off the tv. I could not agree more, being aware is crucial; but when the news can be so grim, how do we go about our days with happiness, especially during the holiday season?

What We Dig

We love this time of year! With celebrations almost in full swing, we are taking advantage of this weekend to partake in some of our favorite holiday traditions and hopefully have some cozy couch time, too. Here’s what we dig this week.

Conscious Gift Giving

As I talked about in this week’s mantra, I’ve been reflecting on the 15+ garbage bags of clothes, shoes, and household items I donated this fall. It felt so good to simplify but also blew my mind that I accumulated that much stuff to begin with. I’ve made it my (early) new year’s resolution to be conscious of how I spend my money, not only for the good of my own home, but also so that I am aware of what garbage and excess clutter I am adding to the world.

As we round out the shopping season, I thought I’d share a few of the techniques I’ve adopted for gift giving this year. My goal is to gift in a way that is thoughtful but doesn’t add too much clutter to the homes of my friends and family.

Elevate Your Relaxing Night at Home

I had a particularly stressful day yesterday and needed an evening wind down that was different than my typical routine. Enter: the most relaxing bath of the year. In addition to candles, dim lighting, and relaxing music, here are a few other ways to elevate your relaxing bath experience.

‘Tis the Season of Christmas Cookies

If you’re making or have ever made Christmas cookies, you can appreciate how much effort they can be. If you’re gearing up for some baking, here is a bit of inspiration!
